Gobustan, Fire Temple & Mud Volcanoes History Tour

💠 Gobustan National Park.

Gobustan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its ancient rock carvings dating back 5,000–40,000 years. The petroglyphs show scenes of hunting, rituals, and daily life of prehistoric tribes. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Caucasus region.

💠 Mud Volcanoes.

Azerbaijan is home to nearly half of the world’s mud volcanoes. These unique geological formations have been active for thousands of years, releasing mud, gas, and minerals from deep underground. The landscape looks like the surface of another planet.

💠 Bibi-Heybat Mosque.

Originally built in the 13th century, Bibi-Heybat Mosque was destroyed during the Soviet period and fully reconstructed in the 1990s. It is one of the most important religious sites in Azerbaijan and a symbol of Islamic heritage in Baku.

💠 First Oil Well.

In 1846, the world’s first industrial oil well was drilled in Baku, marking the beginning of the modern oil industry. This historic event transformed Baku into one of the world’s leading oil capitals in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

💠 Ateshgah of Baku (Fire Temple).

The Ateshgah Fire Temple was built in the 17th–18th centuries by Indian and Persian Zoroastrian worshippers. It stands on a site where natural gas flames once burned continuously, making it an important pilgrimage center for fire worshippers.

💠 Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain).

Yanar Dag has been burning naturally for centuries due to underground natural gas escaping through the hillside. The eternal flames symbolize Azerbaijan’s nickname, “The Land of Fire.”
